Technical Manager.
BS Mining Engineering, University of Idaho.
Professional Engineer with over 42 years of experience in the Mining and Power industries. The last 22 years owned and operated an engineering consulting and construction firm, completing various plants for processing and extraction of minerals at mining operations. While consulting/designing these plants was involved in the design and implementation of various power plants for standalone grids. This included 7 megawatt power plant and associated distribution system in Juelettia Russia, analysis of the Peruvian power grid, for a mine that was expanding in the Andies, which included automatic load sheading in times of low grid power supply. Australia investigated the use of heavy low speed flywheels for stabilization of a two mine, 40MW, Stand Alone Power Grid. Venezuela investigated the use of an electric motor generator set to utilize power off a state grid, where the phases were constantly changing voltages and power factor relative to each other. Consulted on various small hydroelectric projects in the south east US. Prepared and successfully obtained three Hydro power licenses from the FERC. Owned and operated, for 17 years a small low head hydroelectric facility on the second Broad River selling power to Duke Energy. Negotiated several power purchase agreements with power companies for other Independent Power Producers in North Carolina and Washington State. Power purchase agreement in Washington state became standard for IPP Contracts. Four years; negotiated power purchase agreements between Magma Copper Company and Salt River Project, the largest grid operator in Arizona. Our models became the standard for the large Industrial User contracts in Arizona. Helped design and implement a 9 Megawatt, High head, hydroelectric facility at a Copper/ Gold mine in New Guinea, also investigated the hydro potential of several rivers in the immediate vicinity of the mine including grid impact studies.
First 20 years held various engineering /management positions with several mining companies. Duties varied from project engineer to managing up to 70 technical staff at a large mine in New Guinea during a mine expansion.
